This could be considered a stand alone novella. You don't have to have read the previous 13 books to understand what is going on here. I really enjoy the main character of this novella, Cassiopeia Vitt. It isn't surprising that I loved this book. I also thought the mechanism used to learn more about Cassiopeia's life choices was very clever.
