Review: Strange Angel: The Otherworldly Life of Rocket Scientist John Whiteside Parsons

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Strange Angel: The Otherworldly Life of Rock Scientist John Whiteside Parsons by George Pendle is a great book for people into history, rocket science, and/or sex cults.  John Parsons had a "flare" for explosives.  Without him, we might not have jets, rockets, or space travel.  It's odd now to think that the military had all but given up on rockets until Parsons and his motley crew peaked their interest again.  While his essentially self-taught knowledge of things that go boom would make for a fascinating story by itself, add in his passion for sex magick and things get weird almost as fast as one of his rockets.  He was into a whole different kind of Big Bang Theory.

Bonus points for making me want to visit Pasadena, something I never thought I would say.
