I liked this book enough to finish it and put the second book on hold. There was just enough to keep me intrigued and to move it from three to four stars. I am not a big fan of love-at-first-sight romances which may be my biggest issue with the book. I am more forgiving when a seemingly normal character suddenly starts to have powers even if it strains credulity. I enjoyed the alchemy, the cast of characters, and the history.
